A new festival

This definitely will be an interesting festival... all our major festivals have links to the past... its hard to find a festival that includes every section of society and yet not older then say 50-100 years... (I won't count the celebration of different days (mother's/father's/pet's etc) as a festival because of their limited base...) So the idea is to start a new trend/festival that can be enjoyed by all regardless of religion/location/age... A professor discussed this during today's photography lecture and I instantly fell in love with the concept... Goal of the festival is to enjoy the night sky as our ancestors used to... watching a sky full with stars, planets and moon is very fascinating and a small section of our future generation will be aware of it because of lack of dark areas during night time... Festival is like this - switch off all the lights of a city for a couple of hours on a per decided day (which may be 2 or 3 during a year) and watch the beautiful sky with stars... I am sure a lot of us, who belong to urban areas, can't even imagine the beauty of night sky... very few of us are fortunate enough to see the milky-way and streak of falling stars... This very thought of watching milky-way from a city like bombay is making me excited......

Of course practical problems will be there to convince junta to not to switch on lights, but if this idea is put into the action it will be a great fun and learning, as well as a link to the past...

If u like the concept and see even 1% chance of implementation spread it and who knows one day you will be watching stars from your rooftop and singing "Twinkle twinkle little star..." with next generation....

great idea... except that these 2-3 days will be godsend for criminals... think of all the burglaries/robberies that will be planned and executed on a dark night with not even moonlight to provide respite (to celebrate this thing with the moon in the sky would be stupid).

But then, every year so many kids get injured on Diwali and yet it goes on... so, probably robberies are no real reason to not think of this.....

right tyagi, I too thought same thing but the each coin has two sides... and if we can make next generation aware of what they are missing any price is not a big price...
